Problem Welding galvanized strip produces zinc vapor that contaminates the weld, leaves black seams and porosity, and coats nearby parts with zinc oxide dust, degrading weld strength and appearance. Cause Zinc melts and vaporizes well below steel's welding temperature, so the zinc coating on the strip edges vaporizes during HF welding and can be trapped in the molten pool, causing porosity and weak seams.
